A Victorian Bridal Shower!

Purple tulle, purple feathers, purple candies, purple desserts, purple tablecloths...and sangria! The 1910 Inn was the filled with laughter and love today as Alexis, friends, and family gathered for Allyson's bridal shower. The kitchen was abuzz with happy busy-ness as women worked to prepare for the bride-to-be's arrival. And what an arrival it was! Father-of-the-bride drove blindfolded Allyson to a surprise destination (The 1910 Inn) in his shiny, turquoise 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. Oh my...that car looked like it should live at The 1910 Inn! It was beautiful to see the happiness through the afternoon, as the women shared stories, memories, and special time together. Thank you, Alexis, for hosting such a special event at The 1910 Inn. |
Happy 103rd Birthday, Eleanor!

It was so nice to hear from Janice and Eleanor today. Janice takes care of Eleanor. Eleanor was born in 1910. (See The 1910 Inn's Blog Entry from December 8, 2012.) Eleanor turned 103 years old today! She celebrated yesterday with her son and her daughter. She celebrated today with a piece of chocolate cake at the Sponge Docks. Janice said that everytime they drive by The 1910 Inn, Eleanor smiles and says, "1910!" I look forward to having Janice and Eleanor come over for cake and tea very soon. Happy Birthday, Eleanor. |
Festive February

February 2013 Journal: February began as busy as January ended. The 1910 Inn was delighted to host the Florida Hospital North Pinellas / Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital's annual Burnette Society Reception on February 7. It was a lovely evening, as seventy-five guests enjoyed the foods and refreshments prepared and donated by event co-sponsors, The Original Mama Maria's Greek Cuisine and B-21 Liquors. And since hosting 75 guests was manageable, why not try hosting a hundred or more? So on February 16 The 1910 Inn was one of the 27 host destinations for Wine Walk participants. (See The 1910 Inn's website link: Upcoming Event Dates for more information about the Tarpon Springs Merchants Association's Wine Walk events.) It was wonderful to have 126 Wine Walk participants come tour the inn and enjoy a wine tasting and delicious baklava, made with love by Innkeeper Annie. At the apartments Jim and Carla from Arkansas came to spend the month of February in warm, sunny Florida. With the exception of a few cold mornings, our weather did not disappoint them. We look forward to having Jim and Carla back again next winter. Inn guests came to Tarpon Springs and The 1910 Inn from various countries, US states, and Florida cities. It is truly fascinating and educational to hear about their lives and journeys. Indiana farmer, Roger, and his wife, Diane, came to visit Florida before their planting season begins next month. What wonderful talks we had about farming. Always remember, "God Made a Farmer". Gabriel from Florida enjoyed fishing in Spring Bayou. (see entry "Gabriel Goes Fishing") Many guests came to The 1910 Inn, as a side trip to their business conferences in Clearwater and Tampa. Some guests came to spend time away from the daily busy-ness of parenthood. Inn guest, Geoff, from England, ("Geoff with a G...it's the proper way to spell Geoff") was in search of a pub that served IPA beers, and our local Tarpon Tavern offered 4 IPAs during the days of Geoff's visit with his wife, Harriet. Geoff was quite delighted! The inn is a haven and a comfort...especially to those who come to Tarpon Springs to visit dear friends. It is a home away from home. It has been a beautiful February at The 1910 Inn. Upcoming Event at The 1910 Inn: A Victorian Bridal Shower! Consider hosting your special event at The 1910 Inn. |
Gabriel Goes Fishing!

Guest Gabriel from Naples knows how to enjoy a morning in Tarpon Springs. With his early morning coffee from The 1910 Inn, Gabe took his fishing pole and went fishing at Spring Bayou, just yards away from the inn. His wonderful wife, Jennifer, met him later with her coffee, too. Life is good in Tarpon Springs! |

Oscar ! I met Oscar today! I have admired his sculptures, vehicles, and creativity for YEARS. Oscar knew about The 1910 Inn. Oscar knew about the 600 cotton balls! (That's a bit of trivia from the December 28, 2012 Tampa Bay Times article about The 1910 Inn.) This 'old house' keeps gathering the most fascinating new friends. Thank you, Oscar, for taking an interest in The 1910 Inn. |
Joyous January

January 2013 Journal: It has been such a pleasant "Inaugural Month" at The 1910 Inn. At the apartments, the "village people" Al and Joe are living happily. Lucille from Maryland joined the village for two weeks, also. Meanwhile at the inn the most wonderful guests come and go, enjoying relaxing days, comfortable nights, and delicious breakfasts. Lisa and Chris from California stayed for a week. Oh, they are the cutest couple...young love...it's a beautiful thing. Sue and Alleane visited again and added to the Mama Harriette Collection at The 1910 Inn. See Harriette and Jeanette's "School Girls of 80 Years Ago..." entry. Marni brought her mama's marble-topped end table from Virginia to live at The 1910 Inn. Its oval shape looks quite lovely aside the curved carved wood of the red sofa in the round music room. Adventurous Heidi swam in Spring Bayou one afternoon. She returned to Tarpon Springs for a concert recently and brought bassoon music for Mary. Guests attend concerts, visit museums, bike along the Pinellas Trail, and enjoy local restaurants. Gardening is in the early stages at The 1910 Inn. Gardening can be done in January in Florida. When I mentioned that the side garden is a 'work in progress', I received these wise words from Karin from Virginia: "Life is a Work In Progress". Such a nice chat we had over breakfast that morning! Upcoming Event at The 1910 Inn: February 7: Florida Hospital North Pinellas / Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital's annual Burnette Society Reception. Preparations are almost complete, and the string of 'vintage' cafe lights along the front veranda cast a warm nostalgic glow to the inn. A lovely evening is planned for The 1910 Inn...where time stands still. |
School Girls of 80 years ago...

Once upon a time more than 80 years ago in Michigan two sisters, Harriette and Jeannette, would walk home from high school each day. During their walk home they would pass a general mercantile store with a lovely display of fine china. One day a floral pattern of pinks and greens caught their eye. It was quite "modern" for its time. They window shopped and day dreamed all school year about that fine china pattern, future husbands, and future years of dinner parties together. After that year of school the sisters began to buy each other pieces of that pink and green set of china. Plate by plate, cup by cup, and saucer by saucer the sisters purchased a complete set of the "modern" china for them to share. As the years went by, the set continued to grow. Platters, serving bowls, a creamer and a sugar bowl were added to the set. And during those years, their families grew, holidays were celebrated, and meals were enjoyed on their lovely set of china that was first designed in 1908. Now, close your eyes and imagine Harriette and Jeannette walking home from school. Imagine their sweet smiles and cheerful giggles as they planned their futures. Such a sweet picture of two sisters once upon a time. During January 2013 Daughter Sue has brought her Mama Harriette's set of china to live at The 1910 Inn. Mama Harriette's handwritten note tells the story of how the dishes came to be hers and Jeannette's. Come see Mama Harriette's beautiful note and the "modern" china from decades ago. The teenage daydream of two sweet sisters, Harriette and Jeannette, will always endure at The 1910 Inn. |

“Just Renovated....And better than ever! Now: The 1910 Inn” Reviewed January 19, 2013NEW I did not stay here as I live locally, and I have lived in Tarpon Springs for over 20 years. However, I was given the opportunity to take a tour of it since it was recently purchased by a family that has lived in Tarpon Springs for many years! It has been very nicely painted and renovated by the new owners. I was very impressed with how nice and clean it was inside. It had that 'old world charm' with beautiful all wood floors and wood molding throughout. The owners were very nice, and I could tell that they were ready to do whatever it takes to take great care of their guests. They changed the name to 1910 Inn, and the property now looks magnificent. I am very happy to see that the property is now being taken such good care of! If you are coming to Tarpon Springs (which you'll LOVE - but that's for a whole other post) then you should definitely stay here! Dear VacationManFlorida, Thank you for the wonderful review. You are very kind. Many people have toured The 1910 Inn during January 2013; about 200 toured the inn on Epiphany Day. I am wondering who 'VacationManFlorida' is. Another mystery at The 1910 Inn! With sincere thanks, Innkeeper Annie |

Come by The 1910 Inn to see the ever-growing Lavender Garden, comprised of (so far) French Lavender, Mona Lavender, and Fern-leafed Lavender. The lavender plants look quite lovely adjacent to the purple ornamental cabbage plants. |

Such a nice phone call from Colorado today! Dawn and Lorne had planned to stay at a famous, historical, pink hotel in St. Petersburg, but changed their minds after seeing the The 1910 Inn's web site and reading about 'How The 1910 Inn came to be'. I am humbled. (The pink hotel and I are 'old friends' from 22 years ago. I love that pink hotel.) And I love the carribbean green and love potion (eggplant) inn in Tarpon Springs. I very much look forward to meeting Dawn and Lorne and making their stay at The 1910 Inn quite comfortable and charming. |
